| Investigation Continues Into Crash On I-94 That Kills Woman Expecting First Child |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate a recent crash on I-94 that
killed a woman
expecting her first child.
What caused a tractor-trailer to strike the van carrying Sara Cole, whose baby briefly survived but tragically
died three (3) short days later, is part of the inquiry, state police reported. A
crash reconstruction specialist is involved in the investigation. Once the investigation of the
car accident is completed, the prosecutor's office will review the work of the officers and make a determination about any possible criminal charges.
It was reported by state police that Cole, 35, and her husband, Chad, were traveling west near Dearing Road in Sandstone Township when a semitrailer truck struck the back of the van. They were in the back seat of the van, driven by Sara Cole's father, Clarence Fisher, 65.
Her father had apparently pulled the van to the side of the road in order to avoid vehicles losing control in front of them and with snow falling, visibility was limited and vehicles had already reportedly crashed ahead of them.

| Workplace Accident Severely Crushes Woman's Arms |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
A workplace accident severely crushed the arms and hands of a woman in Ferndale, however, doctors are hopeful that they will be able to save both of her limbs.
The woman, who is in her fifties, works at Western Market in Ferndale where she was tending to a cardboard box crushing machine when the accident happened. According to co-owner Tony Selvaggio, the woman has been employed there since 2007. In a statement to the press Selvaggio said that "We're all grieving over here" and was not able to comment on whether the emergency surgery would be able to save her hands and arms. He also stated that the company has owned and operated the machine for over a decade and hasn't experienced any problems before this incident.
According to Sgt. Robert Farrar of the Ferndale Fire Department the woman was conscious and talking when emergency personnel pulled her from the machine. Luckily her coworkers had stepped in quickly to turn off the machine and pull her from it before the EMTs arrived on the scene. This incident has prompted investigators from the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration to come out and determine whether the machine can be used further.
Workplace accidents are common and can happen to anyone. If you have recently become a victim, it is time to contact Freedman & Freedman to get help from a

| Parents Sue Hospital for Child's Cerebral Palsy |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
Parents of a child with cerebral palsy are now suing the hospital where she was born for causing a serious brain injury.
The claim was filed against Protestant Memorial Medical Center by Jennifer and Lance Schneider who claim that their daughter did not receive enough oxygen to her brain during the birthing process, causing the hypoxic brain injury that then led to her developing cerebral palsy. If the doctors had performed in-utero resuscitation maneuvers the little girl might not have suffered the injuries at all, they argue. Sophia Schneider now suffers from loss of enjoyment of a normal life, pain and suffering, disfigurement and disability, according to the complaint filed by the Schneiders.
Furthermore her disability will prevent her from reaching normal levels of education, depriving her of the ability to support herself later on in life. Sophia will also have to pay medical bills throughout her life as a result of her cerebral palsy. For all of this and more the Schneiders seek a judgment of $150,000 plus costs.
Are you thinking about filing a personal injury lawsuit due to a birth injury? If so, now is the time to

| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
The driver in a crash Monday that killed both him and his cousin, the sister of pro basketball player, Willie Green, apparently had a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit, police said Tuesday. Gary Benjamin Green, 27, and his cousin, Tamara Lynette Green, 30, were killed while returning to their Detroit home about 12:40 a.m. after watching Willie Green and the New Orleans Hornets play the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Willie Green, a former player at the University of Detroit Mercy, is Tamara Green's brother and Ben Green's cousin.
According to police, witnesses and an investigation showed Ben Green was driving fast in a GMC Envoy south on I-75 when he apparently lost control of the vehicle south of Adams Road and went off the shoulder. The SUV rolled over into a tree.
Ben Green, who was not wearing a seat belt, was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.24 - three times the .08 level at which a driver is considered intoxicated under Michigan law.
It is being reported that, in addition to this drunk driving accident, Ben Green had a lengthy driving record, according to state records, with at least two drinking and driving violations. According to police, his driver's license was suspended at the time of the crash.

| Sterling Heights Proposes Strict Rules For Pit Bull Owners |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
At a city council meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, the Sterling Heights City Council will consider a proposal to impose strict regulations on pit bull owners. The proposed restrictions would require the dogs to pass a temperament/training program every two licensing cycles; dogs licensed after January 1st must be embedded with a microchip; someone would have to be home when the dog is outside and the dogs must be spayed or neutered unless they are to be bred. Furthermore, pit bull owners could also be ordered to have $250,000 in liability insurance. The proposed regulations would not apply to current owners who have their dogs licensed prior to January 1st.
The proposed regulations are the result of a two-year study in which it was determined that the number of animal control and police runs involving pit bulls has jumped from 55 in 2008 to a projected 316 by the end of 2010. City spokesman Steve Guitar reportedly indicated that while pit bulls account for only 2% of the dogs registered in the city, they account for 1/3 of the runs.
If you or a loved one was bitten by a dog, you may be able to work with an attorney to file a claim against the owner to recover financial compensation for your injuries. | Pit Bulls Escape And Are Killed After Attacking Troy Police Officers |
| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |
 |
An aggressive pit bull brought into Troy by an out-of-town visitor charged Troy police officers and, because of that, the dog was shot and killed, according to police.
The incident began when a Troy Animal Control Officer received a call at 2:54 p.m. Monday about three dogs running loose in the 1000 block of Eastport. One was a pit bull, one a black Labrador and the other a black pug. While on the way to the scene, he was advised that a pit bull had charged at a woman walking in the area.
According to news reports, when he arrived, he located the dogs - one of which was a pit bull. As he left his vehicle, all three dogs charged at him. The pit bull was leading the charge, showing obvious signs of aggression. The officer struck the pit bull in the mouth with his baton and all three dogs fled. He armed himself with his shotgun and called for assistance.
The pit bull charged at him four more times, said police. The dog's caretaker arrived and tried to call off the dogs.
The caretaker's daughter was visiting from out of state and had brought the three dogs with her. They had been in a fenced yard, but escaped.
Troy police officers arrived on scene to help. One of the officers was immediately attacked by the pit bull.
The officer shot the dog, hitting it in the rear leg. The pit bull fled the scene. The other two dogs were captured.
The nearby elementary school was put in lockdown as officers searched for the pit bull.
The pit bull was located on Century Drive near Big Beaver, west of Rochester Road, and was shot and killed.

| Posted By Freedman & Freedman |

Two drivers were seriouslyinjured yesterday morning when their vehicles collided head-on on North Avenue between 31 Mile and 32 Mile roads in Ray Township, said Trooper William Rowell of Michigan State Police's Richmond Post.
Jean McKay, 67, of Harrison Township and Lucia Neda, 28, of Armada were being treated at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center after the automobile accident about 7:30 a.m., Rowell said.
He said McKay's grandchildren, a 2-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, both of Lapeer, did not appear hurt in the car
accident but were taken to the hospital for observation. The children were buckled up in car or booster seats in the backseat of McKay's sport-utility vehicle.
It was reported that both drivers, who were wearing seat belts, had to be extricated from their vehicles by firefighters.
Rowell said that the preliminary investigation and a witness account indicate that McKay's northbound SUV crossed the center line and hit Neda's southbound car head-on despite Neda's attempt to get off the shoulder of the road. The investigation into why the SUV crossed the center line is continuing.

Eunice Smith was at her resale shop on
Detroit
’s west side when she heard a loud “boom.” When she ran outside to investigate, Smith saw that the brick façade along the top of the building had come crashing down. Unfortunately, Smith’s friend was sitting outside the shop when the bricks fell. He was seriously injured. Although her business is open, it is being reported that Smith remains fearful for her safety. Smith is not the owner of the building and she hopes that the building owners will attend to the situation as soon as possible.

A 56-year-old Rochester Hills man was killed Wednesday night when he was trying to cross Auburn Road in Rochester Hills and was hit by a car. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said alcohol may have been a factor in the car accident as the man, who police were not naming, tried to cross at 7:09 p.m. in the dark and rain just west of Midvale.
He was hit by a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by an 18-year-old Rochester Hills resident. Both the driver and the passenger were treated and released at the scene, according to the Sherriff's office. The injured man died at 9:40 p.m. at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac.

| Medical Reasons Ruled Out As Cause Of U.S.- 23 Crash |

It is being reported that no evidence was found during autopsies by the Livingston County Medical Examiner to suggest what may have caused the two-vehicle crash that killed five andinjured four in the Brighton area Sunday afternoon. According to Washtenaw County Medical Examiner Dr. Bader Cassin, an autopsy of the teen driving the car that triggered the crash didn't show anything indicating that he'd suffered a medical emergency that could have led to the crash. Dr. Cassin indicated that there is no indication from the autopsy itself to indicate what may have caused him to leave the roadway noting that the teen appeared to be healthy. Toxicology testing results remain pending.
