Drunk Driving Accidents Down Over Labor Day

Labor Day weekend is known for high rates of alcohol-related car accidents and this year was no exception. In Michigan alone, eight people lost their lives, three of which have been linked to drinking and driving. However, this number was actually down from last year when twenty one people died over the holiday weekend.

Police reports show that of the eight people, four deaths could have been prevented if the victims had been wearing their seat belts. As police agencies across the state submit their reports from the weekend, it is likely that a few more deaths could be reported.

State police believe that the decrease in fatalities can be attributed partially to an increased law enforcement presence on the roadways this year.
