2-Year-Old Falls From 9th-Floor Apartment Building

A 2-year-old girl suffered a broken femur when she fell from a 9^th story window at the North Park Place apartment complex in Southfield.  Investigators believe that the girl may have been reaching for a sippy cup on the window sill and went through the screen.  At this time, investigators do not believe a faulty screen played a role in the fall however, neighbors are questioning the strength of the screen and other falls have occurred at the apartment complex.  It is being reported that a 16-month-old died in 2006 after falling from a 14^th floor window.  Apparently, Southfield city officials intend to form a task force to work with apartment management to prevent similar falls from occurring in the future.
