Posted By Freedman & Freedman

At approximately 3:30 a.m. today, a car was traveling north on Eckles Road going around 80 mph when it hit a curb, traveled 35 yards onto a grassy park area and struck a pine tree according to Livonia police.  As a result, 18-year-old Brad Lashbrook, a recent graduate of Churchill High School, lost his life.  It is reported that two other 18-year-olds were injured in the crash, Chris Bobal, another Churchill graduate, and Dominic Necovski, a recent graduate from Crestwood High School.  Both survivors required treatment at area hospitals. According to authorities, Lashbrook was not driving and it is unclear who was driving at the time of the crash.

Number Of Injuries In Alcohol And Drug-Related Crashes Grows
Posted By Freedman & Freedman

According to the 2009 Michigan Drunk Driving Audit, the number of traffic deaths resulting from alcohol and/or drug-related collisions dropped from 379 in 2008 to 351 in 2009.  However, the number of people suffering injuries as a result of crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs rose from 6,248 in 2008 to 6,271 in 2009.  Michigan State Police director Col Eddie L. Washington Jr. stated that drugs are playing a larger role in traffic crashes and injuries although it is unclear whether the increase is due to "expanded drug testing requests by law enforcement following an arrest."

In 2009 45,893 alcohol and drug-related driving arrests were made.

On Sunday, Cathy Novak of Sterling Heights was outside working in her garden along with her two cocker spaniels.  Her dogs were on chains.  It was then that the two pit bulls living next door got under the fence and attacked Novak and her dogs.  Novak used her cane to defend herself but nonetheless suffered numerous bites and contusions.  Neighbors attempted to help Novak and called 911 on her behalf.  The dogs reportedly remained aggressive even after the police arrived and one of the dogs was shot and wounded when he came at an officer.  He was later put down.  The other dog is in custody for observation.  The owner of the dogs was cited for harboring a vicious dog and dogs running at-large.
