In October of 2007, Valerija Milosevic, 78, was a patient at the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital recovering from a heart attack. During her stay, she fell out of bed sustaining facial fractures and a deep cut over her eye. To treat the cut, a resident used a device that was placed near Milosevic's supplementary oxygen causing it to explode. A jury awarded Milosevic $1.2 million for the burns and permanent scars she suffered as a result.
